HIATUS

This blog has drawn to a halt for a while. Perhaps a long while. Justin had to leave but he still pops up from time to time over at Burn My Eye. Richard has returned to England's Pleasant Pastures and I'm concentrating on my Photohumourist Blog.

It's a bit like Richard said, I think - "collectives are so 2011". Nice one.

This blog will stay up just in case we decide to resurrect it at some point.

Some of my posted photos will no longer appear as I've terminated my PhotoShelter account for the time being.

Good bye.

Here's another silly photo for you. Saw this on a car dashboard. It was a really hot day and I just wanted to do what this leprechaun was doing - basking in the sun. I have so many daft little pictures like this. I think I should go through them and have a play to see if anything can be done with them in terms of sequencing them into some sort of project. You never know. The only problem is finding the time.

Vertiginous - Paul Treacy

I had just finished an assignment and was about to leave the building when I noticed this chap. I was glad I did because it was one of the last shoots I did in New York City before moving back to the UK. And as I knew I would soon be leaving, I paused to take in the spectacular views.

Though this is not at street level, I present it here only because I happened on the scene and it gave me reason to pause and consider, as scenes on the street often do.

I came across the image in my files just the other day while searching for overlooked stock material. Images like this should be publicly available and earning.

I happened upon these young women this last weekend in Stratford. I have no idea what it was all about

Please excuse my posting a reminder of my iBookstore publication, Observing The Flag but if you were lucky enough to receive an iPad for
Christmas or already own and iPhone or iTouch then you might enjoy this sardonic project and it would help me to continue making new work
Thank you

Street photography is rather more than just a genre, as far as I'm concerned. To me it's a method, here applied while wandering the streets with my two lads as we seek out places to play and muck about.

Hoping 2012 will bring you continued happiness and humour

Taking a Christmas Tree for a Walk

I made this shot a few years back late on a frigid New York night while rushing home from an assignment. I just happened to have my camera ready as I saw this group rushing past, eager to get out of the cold.

Thank you for your interest in our blog here at UKSC. We look forward to your returning in 2012. Have a safe and happy holiday.

Street Photography in Motion

This was an experimental film for me. I shot it in September 2010. What I was looking to do was package some street photography from an event in a video where the motion element served as B roll to the stills. It was a tricky shoot in that I was having to be aware of what might serve as good footage and audio, as well as being on the lookout for those arresting still images that we street photographers are constantly seeking.

This was only my third attempt as making a film having previously covered the G20 Demo and the Peace Camp in Parliament Square, again looking to concentrate mostly on stills and using video to package it all up, such that the short film would serve as an alternative delivery mechanism for my street photography.

I hope to do a lot more of this throughout 2012.

There continues to be development behind the scenes here at UKSC as we study the work of our newest photographer, Stewart in readiness for his first post. All very interesting and exciting.

More soon.
